Fashion Friday features the incredible artistry of Valentino as worn by Jennifer Lopez at the 2017 Met Gala.

His exposure to fashion began as a boy in Italy working with his Aunt Rosa. As a teenager, he moved to Paris to study at the acclaimed École des Beaux-Arts and at the Chambre Syndicale de la Couture Parisienne. He enjoyed numerous apprenticeships and design positions with prominent fashion designers after school, but returned home to set up his own shop in Rome.

He modeled his shop after the grandeur of the Parisian fashion scene and began flying in models for his shows. This display of opulence nearly cost him his company.

In the 1960’s Jackie Kennedy was instrumental in expanding Valentino’s name internationally when she began wearing his designs. Since the 1970’s, Valentino’s roster of A-list clients has grown as has his signature use of red. Learn more about him in the documentary; Valentino: The Last Emperor.
