Modern Monday: Marble Swirl

Modern Monday showcases this celebrity marble kitchen that is a bold and dramatic symmetrical space. The ceiling to floor black and white swirled marble wall is complemented by the reverse colored island with geometric black stools and oversized wood sculpture. The wood beams soften the seemingly cold marble. The black barn lights add an element of rustic urban essence to an otherwise sophisticated and chic design. The black and chrome metals accent the black and white color scheme. Via MyDomaine.

Modern Monday: Vintage Staircase

Modern Monday’s inspiration is this traditional white staircase dressed in vintage gold accessories. These elegant gold mirrors in various sizes and shapes bring visual interest and light to the staircase and wood floor hallway. You can consider duplicating this concept for your hanging collectibles. That stunning crystal and gold chandelier complements the mirrors and white space perfectly.

Modern Monday: Brass N Blue

Modern Monday features the refined design aesthetic of Sarah Richardson. Sarah is known for her command of color and brilliant pattern mixes.

In this white kitchen, she achieves a dimensional balance between the length of an all-white wall of cabinetry with the bold royal blue island and chairs. The room’s elements including color, chair style, chandelier style, subway tile and accessories are rather traditional. However, she modernizes the space through the size, wide plank flooring, built in marble and brass table, elegant brass Edison style bulb pendants, glossy blue paint and integration of fabrics and patterns.

Take a risk. Try options you would never consider. These details create this magical kitchen.

Modern Monday: Cosmopolitan Craft

Modern Monday opens the windows to a kitchen of simple craft and charm translated with refined modern simplicity.

The long table is a combination of wood and stone on two levels. The organic materials speak to our rustic sensibilities and the joining of them is a modern design detail.

The table length and placement along with the dancing (alternating) pendants overhead lead your eye toward the oversized window and the comforting beam of natural light. Of course the moss plates conveniently harmonize with the outdoor shrub. Simple, elegant and intentional design can make modern warm.

Modern Monday: Eclectic Living

Modern Monday: Blue Crush

Modern Monday steps into a couple’s Parisian living room designed by Studio KO. The blue velvet sofa and Brutalist sconces are custom designed by KO. The midcentury barrel chairs are designed by the Brazilian Modernist Jorge Zalszupin.

Did you notice the zebra area rug and the oversized bold green palm leaves on the fireplace mantle? The ceiling to floor window and the mantle to ceiling mirror over the fireplace beam lots of natural light into this space.

Modern Monday: Monochromatic Pattern Play

Modern Monday’s gorgeous living space is a design extravaganza by the one and only Martyn Lawrence Bullard. He is a master of creating predominantly monochromatic rooms layered with just a few colors but with an abundance of texture, patterns and objects d’art.

He creates symmetrical lines yet breaks the rhythm with surprising placements of furniture, accessories and /or art. Indulge your senses in this latest project featured in Architectural Digest.

Modern Monday: Turquoise Dining

Modern Monday features this natural light-filled dining room with a stroke of MCM turquoise and brass chairs with a brass-trimmed round table. Did you see those lucite, turquoise and brass trimmed stools positioned at the Carrara marble island (trimmed in brass)? Divine!

What about that neutralizing textured grey wallpaper and the chandelier that repeats the circular shapes of the furniture and adds visual interest and flair to the room.

It is the time of the year when most people change out their dining room. If you need ideas and design assistance, just click here.

Modern Monday: Deco Details

Modern Monday is a nod to the exquisite Art Deco style in the lobby of Claridges Hotel in London from 1935. This lobby, as well as other areas in this hotel was revamped with designs by Guy Oliver who believes that interior design is about telling a story.

Art Deco is a Parisian design style that influenced architecture, furniture, jewelry, fashion, cars, trains and much more. It first appeared just prior to WWI. It is experiencing a rebirth which you currently see in new automobile design.

Does your design tell your story? If not, why not?
